“Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it.” - Ferris Bueller
Indeed, it does, Ferris. This has always been a favorite quote.
Photo backstory: Meerkats in 2008 at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, NE.

Mmm, pizza
"You better cut the pizza in four pieces because I'm not hungry enough to eat six." - Yogi Berra
As a pizza connoisseur, this cracks me up every time I read it! :) The pic is one I took at Punch Pizza in northeast Minneapolis in 2008.

Honoring his legacy today
“If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” ― Martin Luther King Jr. I took this photo in Omaha, Nebraska in 2009 the day after a big Christmas snow storm.

Winter: so little to do?
"Winter is the time of promise because there is so little to do -- or because you can now and then permit yourself the luxury of thinking so." -Stanley Crawford
I think it's ok to do a little hibernating in winter. How else are we gonna have the energy for the rest of the year? :)

Winter is on my head
"Winter is on my head, but eternal spring is in my heart." - Victor Hugo
I have come to appreciate all seasons though spring and autumn hold more affection in my heart than winter and summer.
Photo backstory: It was taken in March of 2006 on the last day of winter - at least according to the calendar. Mother Nature had other plans.

Incompatible addictions
"Be thoughtful of others and you will not be shy, for they are incompatible addictions." - Robert Brault True enough. Being thoughtful, being the change, requires reaching out.

An Invincible Summer
"In the depts of winter I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer." - Albert Camus
I took this photo in December of 2010 during a storm that dumped around 2 feet of snow on the twin cities. Had I no memories in my heart of summer, it would have been difficult to bear winter that season! :)

Explorers
“Like all explorers, we are drawn to discover what's out there without knowing yet if we have the courage to face it.” - Pema Chödrön
I took this photo near Dillon, Colorado in 2009. Someday I want to live in Colorado for at least a year. Being a Midwesterner my whole life, I can't help but be fascinated with mountains. I hope I have the courage to hike them when that day comes.

Lazy winter
"Welcome, winter. Your late dawns and chilled breath make me lazy, but I love you nonetheless." - Terri Guillemets
I spotted this farm in southern Minnesota at few years back. The think snow and a car still under a snowy blanket made me hope the resident was curled up on the couch under an afghan sipping cocoa; maybe reading a book.
Feel for the winter
"Feel for the winter but don't have a cold heart." - Little River Band
It is so easy to complain about the weather. Guilty as charged. :) But once accepted, there's beauty to appreciate. Be it the first light snow or the excuse to stay indoors sipping cocoa on a blustery day, it's there. Embrace it.
